I don’t understand how to use わけじゃなくても in the sentence
Give me a lesson using the Feynman Technique on how to us it. I’m JLPT level 3.
]Let me explain the difference between 見つける and 見かける using simple terms and examples.
The Key Difference
Finding something you were looking for
- You have intention or purpose
- You actively search
- “to find” or “to discover”
Happening to see something/someone
- No intention – it’s by chance
- You’re not searching for it
- “to catch sight of” or “to spot”
Think of it like this:
見つける is like a treasure hunt – you’re actively looking for treasure and then you find it!
見かける is like walking down the street and suddenly noticing your friend at a café – you weren’t looking for them, but you spotted them.
Examples
(Finding – with intention)
“I found my keys.” (I was looking for them)いい店を見つけました。“I found a good restaurant.” (I was searching for one)答えを見つけるのに時間がかかった。“It took time to find the answer.” (I was trying to solve it)
(Spotting – by chance)
“I spotted Tanaka-san at the station.” (I wasn’t looking for him)珍しい鳥を見かけました。“I caught sight of a rare bird.” “I often see him around here.” (Random encounters)
Memory Trick
Find (both have “F” – intentional searching)
Catch sight (both start with “C” – coincidental)
Test Yourself
Which would you use?
- You’re looking for your phone and finally locate it: ___
- You randomly see your teacher at the supermarket: ___
(Answers: 1.
The grammar is the same, but the nuance is completely different – intention vs. chance!
